Upper vs Lowercase Letters
Busy parents, take note… Is your child struggling with identifying particular letters? Or perhaps they are confident in recalling letter sounds but need some support with learning letter names? Children are often much more familiar with lowercase letters and need a bit of extra support with learning to read and write capital letters (apart from their initials, of course – the most important letters in the alphabet!).
Here are two simple activities that you can play anywhere – perfect as a quick phonics game at home, or you can even bring it along on a train journey to keep your little one occupied.

Fancy a game of snap?
Resources
- Paper/card (4 or 5 sheets)
- Scissors
- Pen
All you need to do is cut the paper up into 52 pieces and write out the upper and lowercase letters.
Jumble them up and let the fun begin!
Tip: You may want to narrow the cards down to the letters that your child needs more practise recognising.

Matching Upper and Lowercase Letters
Using the cards from your snap game, challenge your child to match the letters within a certain time limit.
You could even make it a competition of who can match their set of letters the fastest!
