If you are searching for ways to support your child with learning how to write their name at home, then check out these fun, simple and effective ideas!
For children starting school, learning to write their name is usually one of their first and most meaningful writing targets. Many children starting Reception can already recognise their name when they see it written down or are aware of the first letter in their name, whereas some are already able to write their name. But please remember, every child is different.
Here are some fun and simple ways to support your child with name-writing at home:

Practise in flour…
Simply coat a baking tray with a thin layer of flour for your child to practise name-writing using their finger.
You could even place flour on your dining table or use a paintbrush to mark-make.

Magic salt writing…
Like the idea above, simply coat a tray/tin with a thin layer of salt.
The best thing about using salt is that you can simply shake the tray and start again if you make a mistake!

Finger painting…
Your child will enjoy getting messy here! Always encourage them to start their letters in the correct place.

Car tracing…
This is great for children who need to practise on a larger scale. You could write out your child’s name for your child to paint-trace over using a toy car.
The best way for your child to learn to write their name is to give them plenty of meaningful opportunities to practise. For example, labelling their artwork or involving them in signing their name in birthday cards. And don’t forget to encourage lowercase letters, apart from the capital at the beginning!
Strengthening Finger Muscles
If your child’s pencil grip is weak, here are a few simple activities to strengthen those little hand muscles:
Activity 1: Transferring rice grains using tweezers.
Activity 2: Use a spray bottle (perhaps they could give your flowers a spritz)
Activity 3: Painting using cotton buds
Activity 4: Threading – they could try threading pipe cleaners through the holes in colander or you could use a hole punch to make holes in a piece of card for them to thread string through.
Activity 5: Playdough – squeezing and rolling dough is great for building the muscles in little hands!
